Abstract
A special challenge when designing an entire bridge model that includes superstructure, piers, foundations, abutments and their connections is modelling the construction joints. This paper takes an example from a real project where pier, foundation slab and piles were modelled for Vranduk 2 bridge. The joint can be modelled in multiple ways, depending what part of the bridge we focus on. Differences in joint modelling and required steel rebar area will be shown. Accurate modelling leads to real construction behaviour and in the end gives the correct amount of required steel.
