Abstract

Some time ago I experienced a debilitating blood disorder. It forced me to go slow and travel inside my body. Exploring this relatively unknown territory was as strange as looking under my car bonnet! I've always focused on being an obliging provider, a good daughter, wife, mother, sister, friend, employee, colleague and psychologist. Slowly I became aware that, while pleasing and caring for others, I had neglected my internal needs. Although I valued my achievements, I forgot to care for my inner core. I realised that my body reflected my internal and external stressors. It broke down while I was researching stressful material about workplace bullying. Once I recovered, I bought an antique 'forget-me-not' ring and I wear it every day. It's a constant reminder to value myself.
