Abstract
Investor relations is one of the key strategic corporate functions—the survival of an organization depends on how well current and potential investors understand the company's business model and its value. This chapter defines investor relations, compares and contrasts its various definitions, and traces the evolution of investor relations and financial communication from the first known shareholding company to modern-day corporations.
