Abstract

Development t e s t s on a 1/4-scale model of t h e Republic F-105 a i rplane a r e being conducted i n t h e Lmgley 19-foot pressure tunnel.The i n i t i a l t e s t s , the r e s u l t s of which a r e presented herein, were made a t a Reynolds number of 9.0 X lo6 and a corresponding Mach number of 0.20 on t h e model equipped with a supersonic-type e l l i p t i c a l wingr o o t i n l e t .Included i n t h e present paper a r e t h e r e s u l t s of the following: (1) Longitudinal s t a b i l i t y and c o n t r o l % e s t s of t h e b a s i c design provided by t h e contractor ( 2 ) Tests of various modifications designed t o improve t h e s t ab i l i t y c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s of t h e model with t h e trailing-edge f l a p s deflected (3 ) Brief exploratory l a t e r a l -c o n t r o l and rudder-ef f ectiveness t e s t s (4) S t a l l s t u d i e s and duct air-flow measurements I n order t o expedite t h e issuance of t h e d a t a f o r t h i s airplane, no analysis of t h e r e s u l t s has been made.
