Abstract

This paper presents a study on the performance of external gear pumps with some asymmetric tooth profiles. We designed an involute gear and some non-involute gears with asymmetric tooth profile which has different tooth profiles on the sides of working flank and non-working flank. Then, we calculated the discharge volume of these gear pumps by using a new calculation method, and the calculated results were compared. Consequently, it is confirmed from the calculation result that the discharge volume of the gear pump with asymmetric involute tooth profile is about 15% larger than that of the gear pump with symmetric one.
