Recent Developments for Composite Buildings in Japan

Research work and construction practice of composite steel and reinforced concrete structural systems in Japan are reviewed, based on the data gathered by the working group of the Architectural Institute of Japan. Recent research trends are discussed by introducing leading papers on the behavior of structural components and frames. Several aspects of the system such as mechanical properties, design, construction, and economics are investigated. Design standards used in Japan are briefly introduced, and research needs are pointed out.
