Abstract

Executive summary: As the name “information engineering” (IE) implies, this method is aimed primarily at large information systems, often using major enterprise-level databases, repositories, or even “big data” in today’s world. IE applications are not aimed at systems or embedded software. IE originated in Australia circa 1975 and then moved to other countries. IE has a broader set of requirements and design issues than other methods because it deals with database and information topics over and above pure software engineering.
