Worship in Liber Antiquitatum Biblicarum

Though not concentrated on cultic activities, the anonymous 1st century CE book Liber Antiquitatum Biblicarum contains different aspects of worship. The main topic the author is concerned with is idolatry which he views as the greatest temptation for the people. Worship is concentrated on legitimate sacred places, led solely by the prominent leaders, foremost of whom are the elected and anointed priests. Prayer, as dialogue between humans and God, constitutes the essential element of worship. The people’s idolatry led to the annihilation of the priesthood and to the death of the anointed royal leader. The profile of worship reflects to the circumstances of the author.
