Abstract

The Chicago O'Hare International Airport (O'Hare) is one of the busiest facilities in the world. Operating at near capacity, the airport provides a critical link in the United States' air transportation system. To maintain the O'Hare pavements in the operational and safe condition, and to facilitate future capital investment, management must have accurate and current information pertaining to the pavements readily available to them. Accurate and current distress data are needed to document the present condition of the pavement and to determine maintenance and rehabilitation needs. This documentation needs assessment is readily accomplished within the context of a pavement management system (PMS).
