Abstract

Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition ( HCCI ) combustion has attracted considerable interest in recent years as a new combustion concept for internal combustion engine. On the other hand, two combustion concepts proposed for two-cycle SI engines are Active Thermo-Atmosphere Combustion ( ATAC ) and Activated Radical Combustion ( ARC ). The authors undertook this study to examine the similarities and differences between HCCI combustion and ACAC ( ARC ) combustion.
