In order to sustain advantages of Japanese manufacturing industries, it is very important to organize appropriate design process in consideration of its quality, cost, lead time and so on. In this paper, design processes of ship structure are paying attention to. At first, multi-step optimization system for ship structural design was developed. The characteristic of the system is to reproduce designer's solution by considering the feature and the relation of design information. Next, some new processes for ship structural design are proposed by the use of Design Structure Matrix. As a result, influences of design process on ship structure are discussed by using above optimization system.
