Analysis of curative effects of carbamazepine,topiramate and valproate in the treatment of the patients with epilepsy secondary to encephalitis

Objective To observe the curative effects of carbamazepine ,topiramate and valproate in the treatment of the patients with epilepsy secondary to encephalitis.Methods Sixty cases of patients with epilepsy secondary to encephalitis were selected as the research objects and randomly divided into group A ,group B and group C. Twenty cases were included into each group. The patients in group A were treated with carbamazepine ,the patients in group B were treated with valproate and the patients in group C were treated with topiramate. The curative effects of the three groups were evaluated and compared and the occurrences of adverse reactions of the patients in the three groups during the treatment were observed and compared.Results The clinical efficiency of the three groups were 70% ,70% and 75% respectively ,and the differences were not significant (P>0.05) ,and there were no significant differences of the curative effects evaluation results between the three groups (P>0.05). The incidences of the adverse reactions of the patients in the three groups during the treatment were 55% ,45% and 15%. The incidence of the adverse reaction in group A or group B was significantly higher than that of group C (P<0.05) and the occur‐rence of skin rash in group A was significantly higher than that of group B or group C (P<0.05).Conclusion The curative effects of valproate ,topiramate and carbamazepine in the treatment of the patients with epilepsy secondary to encephalitis are similar. The application of topiramate leads to less adverse reactions and helps to improve the patients’ compliance.
