Benign Phyllodes Tumor of the Breast: MR Imaging Features Case Report

T he phyllodes tumor, first described by Muller [ 11 in 1838, is a fibroepithelial neoplasm that histologically resembles a fibroadenoma. However, unlike fibroadenomas, phyllodes tumors have a high incidence of local recurrence after surgery and a potential for hematogenous metastases [2]. Phyllodes tumors cannot be distinguished from other benign or malignant tumors on the basis of mammographic or sonographic features; the diagnosis can be made only by histologic criteria. We evaluated the MR imaging features of four benign phyllodes tumors. One of the four cases is discussed in this article.
