Abstract
In this paper, the author gives basic information about the influence of internationalization of retail trade on faster development of the forms of shops, on the retail structure, as well as on the possible development of production in the country into which large international retail chains are expanding. The purpose of the paper is to provide a foundation and starting point for more extensive research into internationalization and globalization of retail trade and for the analysis of these phenomena within the context of the economic development in the Republic of Croatia.
