Abstract

An amended version of Brendan Nelson's Backing Australia's Future package was passed in the Senate in early December, 2003. While the Government won many of its key objectives - increased fees and charges, the student learning entitlement, no indexation and increased government regulation of universities - it suffered a comprehensive defeat on workplace relations issues.
