Abstract

According to a survey of more than 70,000 community college students nationwide, there is a disconnect between the level of their college‐preparedness perceptions and reality. Expectations Meet Reality: The Underprepared Student and Community Colleges, 2016 National Report was released by the Center for Community College Student Engagement. Among key findings, the report found that 86 percent of students enrolling in community college believe they are adequately prepared for the rigor of community college, yet 68 percent of them take at least one developmental course. “They are not as prepared as they think,” said Courtney Adkins of CCCSE.
