Allelopathic Effects of Artemisia aucheri boiss Essential Oils on Seed Germination and Early Seeding Growth of Red-root Amaranth, (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) and Field Bindweed (Convolvlus arvensis L.)

Abstract

The use of various plants allelopathic potentials will be introduced as a biological method of weed Management. In order to investigate the allelopathic effect of essential oil of Artemisia aucheri on the same characteristics of red-root amaranth (Amaranthus retroflexus boiss) weeds and field bindweed (Convolvlus arvensis L.) weeds a research was done. The experiment was set up as a factorial experiment replicated thrice in a completely randomized design. The oil was taken from the shoot and concentrations, Control, Tween, 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 ppm were obtained. The results indicated effect of different concentrations was significant on shoot dry weight (p<0.001), root dry weight, seed vigor and germination rate (p<0.005). The results also showed that effect of Artemisia aucheri extract on the germination and growth of Amaranthus retroflexus is greater than of Convolvulus arvensis weeds.
