Allelopathic effect from some medicinal plants on germination of Alyssum hirsutum and Amaranthus retroflexus.

In this study we studied the effect of two concentrations hydro extract of Yarrow (Achillea willhelmsi and A. milifolium) Sage (Salvia officinalis) Catnip (Nepeta cataria) and Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) (Control, 5 and 10%) on seed germination and plantlet growth of two weeds, Alyssum hirsutum and Amaranthus retroflexus. Results showed that The highest seed germination of two weeds obtained in control treatment, Increasing in the level of treatments cause reduction in seed germination and plantlet growth factors. Our results showed that seed germination doesn’t observed in for Amaranth and Sage % and Tansy 5% for Alyssum weed. The extracts of all the medicinal plants studied inhibited the germination of A. hirsutum and A. retroflexus. It was concluded that some of these extracts may be used as herbicide to control the germination and growth of some other weeds.
