Abstract
Guizhou Province of China has one of the largest, continuous karst areas in the world. Because of the physical and chemical characteristics of karst in Guizhou, water and land resources are very deficient. Water and land resources are the two key natural resources restricting sustainable development in Gu i zhou. This study, which is wrapped around water and land resources, aims at analyzing the sustainable deve l opment in Guizhou Province with the method of system dynamics. Based on the analysis of the major features of water, land r esources, s o-cio- economic - ecological system in Guizhou, we develop a conceptual model (a causal loop diagram) to reflect the fundamental feedback structure and the causal relationships of the sustainable development system. According to the conceptual model, this study presents the suggestive coun termeasures to promote the harmonized development among economy, society, population, water and land resources and the environment in Guizhou Province
