Abstract
Calcium-channel blockers are a diverse group of drugs that are very effective in lowering blood pressure. Clinical trials have shown that their use results in improved cardiovascular outcomes in patients at high cardiovascular risk. Current guidelines recommend that these agents be used as first-line drugs in the treatment of hypertension. They are generally well tolerated.
