Abstract

TCP/IP protocols are used to send and receive data, voice and video data grams or packets over the internet. Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) is version four of the Internet Protocol, which is the basis of TCP/IP protocols. Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) holds the future of ip addressing. It has many advantages compared to IPv4. The basic framework of IPv6 protocol was interchanged by the Internet Engineering Task Force. Present paper provides an introduction to IPv6 by giving the results that can be obtained by deploying the technology. It also explains some of the technical features and advantages of IPv6.
