Abstract
With the marked development of the Internet, the present Internet protocols IP version 4 can not satisfy the requirements of network development The limitations of IPv4 and the merits of IP version 6 (IPv6) are pointed out. The necessity of transference from IPv4 to IPv6 is discussed and techniques such as dual stack technique, tunnel technique and address and protocol translator technique are also presented to upgrade from IPv4 to IPv6.
