Abstract

Efficient input application for a specific crop is very important. The variation of inputs and application methods can result in significant differences in the final farm productivity and profitability. Chequen has shown, under certain conditions with no-till, that low fertility soils can be more profitable than fertile or irrigated soils. Interior roads and electrification of the farmstead can reduce the production costs and make farming more efficient and enjoyable. The use of stubble avoids harsh farming practices that involves traditional soil mining; while no-till provides the needed conservation. The integral use of resources that are generated from farming have been extremely important in Chequen's development. No-till provides a farmer the opportunity to increase cattle numbers and produce more beef per area. The winter wheat crops in Chequen are not irrigated, depending on the seasonal rainfall, especially during fall and spring.
