Abstract

Freedom of political communication is a form of freedom of expression. It means the freedom to express views about governments, political/economic issues, laws and the legal system. Freedom of political expression is essential for the rule of law as it enables people to be informed about the actions of government. On the basis of that information, they can decide who they will vote for as their representatives in the Commonwealth Parliament, in accordance with the Australian Constitution.
