Abstract
This paper considers the general principles involved in the design of a railway marshalling yard and the methods used to compare flat-yard with hump-yard shunting. The selection of the type of yard has to be made before detailed planning proceeds, and the criteria for this are enlarged upon. These principles are then applied to the design of the Te Rapa marshalling yard. A description is given of the hump area and the method of deciding on its shape. The determination of the number of arrival and departure roads required is then discussed. The yard is due for completion by September 1969.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
A contribution statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
Method details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Findings are not separately available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Limitations are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Application details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
