Assessment of Renal Medulla Blood Flow Perfusion with a Self-Made Liposome Perfluorocarbon Contrast Agent and Its Potential Applications

Abstract

Objective To investigate the feasibility and potential usefulness of renal medulla blood flow perfusion with a self made liposome perfluocarbon ultrasound contrast agent. Methods Ten normal rabbits kidneys were imaged with second harmonic imaging before and after intravenous injection of the liposome contrast agent at a dose of 0.01ml/kg. The subjective scores and video intensities were used to evaluate and compare the grey scale enhancement effects of renal medulla and cortex. Results The renal medulla grey scale imaging was greatly enhanced after the injection,but the enhancement time of renal medulla was shorter than that of renal cortex. The notable enhancement time of renal medulla and cortex were 2′20″,52′,respectively. Conclusion The self made liposome perfluocarbon contrast agent can be used for evaluation of renal medulla blood flow perfusion and has a potential diagnostic value.
