Abstract
Objective To detect the clinicopathological significance of p27 and p53 gene expression in oral squamous cell carcinomas.Methods The expression of p27 and p53 were examined in 38 cases of squamous cell carcinomas with immunohistochemical techniques.Results The positive rate of p27 expression was 57.9%.21 of 38(55.3 %) samples expressed p53 protein,among which,squamous cell carcinoma grade Ⅰ was 40.0%,grade Ⅱ 20.0%,grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ 87.5%,and there was a significant difference between grade Ⅰand grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ.Conclusion Decrease of p27 protein expression plays an important role during carcinognesis and development of oral squamous cell carcinoma.The protein expression of p53 involves mainly in the transformation from oral precancerous lesions to squamous cell carcinoma.Comprehensive analysis of p27 and p53 expression can predict the prognosis in these patients and assist the early diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
