Clinical Observation of Modified Dingchuan Decoction for Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Objective:To observe the effect of modified Dingchuan Decoction for acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods:Eighty-two qualified cases were divided into two groups.Forty patients in the control group received routine western medical treatment including controlling infection,relieving asthma,resolving phlegm,and oxygen inhalation.Forty-two patients in the treatment group were treated with modified Dingchuan Decoction on the basis of oxygen inhalation and controlling infection.Therapeutic effect,lung function and blood gas analysis indexes were observed after treatment for ten days.Results:The total effective rate was 95.2% in the treatment group,and was 75.0% in the control group,the difference being significant(P 0.01).The differences of dyspnea score,lung function and blood gas analysis indexes were significant between the two groups after treatment(P 0.05).Conclusion:Modified Dingchuan Decoction has the actions of clearing lung and relieving asthma,arresting cough and resolving phlegm.When used together with anti-infection western medicine,Modified Dingchuan Decoction can effectively control the clinical symptoms,improve lung function,and reduce the recurrence rate,which is worth of clinical extension.
