Abstract

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of corneal limbal stem cell autograft transplantation, fresh amniotic membrane transplantation and pterygium excision int he treatment of pterygium. Methods One hundreds and sixty-seven eyes(137 patients)were randomly divided into three groups:simple pterygium excision(group A,48 eyes);excision of pterygiym with fresh amniotic membrane transplantation(group B,53 eyes) and excision of pterygium with corneal limbal stem cell autograft transplantation(group C,66 eyes). All patients had been follow up for 6~60 mouths, then compared the recurrence rate. Results The recurrence rate was 33.33% in group A,(16 of 48 eyes were recurred.);the recurrence rate was 15.09% in group B,(8 of 53 eyes were recurred.);and the recurrence rate was 4.55% in group C(3 of 66 eyes were recurred.).The different being significant between the A group and B group(χ~2=4.47,P0.05) and between the B group and C group (χ~2=3.90,P0.05).Conclusions The pterygium recurrence rate was reduced with corneal limbal stem cells autograft transplantation. It′s an ideal method of pterygium surgery.
