Abstract
Humanism is the backbone of western literature as well as western culture.To delve into the important theme of humanistic pursuit in the book,this paper detailedly examines Pilate in the three conflicts on her way to pursue humanism: conflict between self and self(humanism and Pilate's society),conflict between self and society(Pilate's pursuit for humanism),conflict between self and others(Pilate's humanism and Milkman's humanistic growth).
