Clinical analysis of IOL implantation in the children with traumatic cataract.

Abstract

Objective To investigate the timing,effect and complication of IOL implantation in the children with traumatic cataract.Methods analysed 18 cases (18 eyes) of IOL implantation in children aged 3-11 years with traumatic cataract.Results The best corrected visual acuity was 1.0 in 3 cases,≥0.1 in 16 cases,0.1 in 2 cases.The early complications were corneal edema,uveitis and exudate in the anterior chamber.The later complications were posterior synechia of the iris,formation of membrane,irregular pupil,IOL pupilary capture,secondary glaucoma.Conclusion IOL implantation in the children with traumatic cataract is propitious for binocular single vision,but the complications are more serious than in adult.The time of operation is better in 2 weeks to 2 months after trauma.
