Abstract
Objective This study aimed to learn the current distribution of subcutaneous fat of Han student aged 7-18, so as to find the pattern of the subcutaneous fat distribution. Methods The data of the skinfold thickness of students participated in 2010 National Student Physical Fitness and Health research in Yunnan Province were studied. The sum of the skinfold thickness of the upper arm, scapular and abdomen were calculated. The results were compared between urban and rural areas and between genders. Results Significant differences in skinfold thickness were observed between urban and rural students, and also between male and female students. The skinfold thickness of urban students is far greater than that of rural students, and that of girls are far greater than that of boys. Conclusion The skinfold thickness is an indicator for the human subcutaneous fat distribution and nutritional status. This study showed that it is related to nutritional intake and gender.
