A Comparison between Mahfouz's and Bajin's Family Novels in the Context of Pre-figurative Culture and Post-figurative Culture

The conflict between the patriarchal politics and the youth culture, expressed in the family novels written by Mahfouz and Bajin is discussed, in the view of pre-figurative culture and post-figurative culture. The olds want to fetter the youths by the traditional culture, meanwhile the youths try to reform its malpractices. By analyzing the reason led to the conflict, we will find some features of oriental culture traditions on the basis of ethics and morals, such as the group conception, the family conception and the ancestral system.
