Abstract
With the development of FACTS techniques, many new FACTS devices emerged, such as STACOM which is based on wholly controllable power electronic devices (e.g. GTO thyristor and IGBT). Compared with conventional static var compensator (SVC), the static compensator (STATCOM) has many technical advantages. The STATCOM and SVC are introduced, and comprehensive comparison and analysis are conducted between them in the aspects of voltage support, dynamic simulation, control method, harmonics and economy.
