Is It Necessary to Have Underground Expressway Network for the Urban Traffic

In this paper the change of communication manners with technology development is reviewed. The trend of urban traffic development and necessity of underground traffic is pointed out. The characteristics of underground rail traffic and underground highway network as well as the role of both in urban development are analyzed. It is pointed out that the necessity of underground highway network in urban planning should be considered.
