Abstract
Objective To study the relations between the expression of the vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) mRNA,protein and cervical lymph nodes metastasis in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma(LSCC).Methods The expression of VEGF mRNA and protein in 60 cases with LSCC were detected by semi-RT-PCR technique and immunohistochemistry. Results The VEGF mRNA A of supraglottic LSCC with(the first group) and without(the second group) cervical lymph nodes metastasis were 0.676±0.032 and 0.465±0.024 respectively;the VEGF mRNA A of glottic LSCC without cervical lymph nodes metastasis(the third group) was 0.273±0.030;LSCC without cervical lymph nodes metastasis(the fourth group, that the second group plus the third group) was 0.369±0.113(all P0.01).The positive rate of the VEGF protein expression in the first group was 65.0%,in the second group was 20.0%,in the third group was 25.0% and in the fourth group was 22.5%.The differences were statistically significant among the first group and the others(all P0.05).Conclusions The expression of gene and protein of VEGF is related to cervical lymph node metastasis of LSCC.The VEGF mRNA would become a biologic index to prognose LSCC and a target for anti-angiogenic therapy.
