Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression of CD44V6 and MMP-2 and invasion, metastasis in the thyroid carcinoma. Methods: The SP immunohistochemical method was employed to detect the expression of CD44V6 and MMP-2 in 75 cases thyroid carcinomas and 39 cases benign thyroid tumors. Results: The positive expression rate of cd44v6 in Papillary Thyroid Carcinomas and Follicular Thyroid Carcinomas was 70.6%(24/34) and 70.7% (29/41) respectively, while the positive expression rate of MMP-2 in Papillary Thyroid Carcinomas and Follicular Thyroid Carcinomas was 73.5% (25/34) and 75.6%(31/ 41) respectively, both of which was higher than that in the thyroid adenoma and nodular goiter. The expression of CD44V6 was significantly correlated with the expression of MMP-2 in thyroid carcinoma (γ=0.4828, P0.001), and their expression was significantly correlated with clinical stage and lymph node metastasis. Conclusion: The expression of CD44V6 and MMP-2 is associated with invasion and metastasis of thyroid carcinoma. There are common effects to promote the invasion and metastasis in thyroid carcinoma.
