Abstract
A monthly investigation was carried out in Baxianshan Nature Reserve(BNR) to determine the fauna characteristics and ecological distribution of mammals from March,2007 to February,2008.Total of 26 species belonging to 13 families and 6 orders were found.Among the mammals, there were 14 Palearctic species,7 Oriental species, and 5 cosmopolitan species, respectively. The BNR is a crossing area of Palearctic species and Oriental species on the zoogeographical regions, and it is a transitional area from the Palearctic realm to the Oriental realm. The analysis results of the ecological distribution of mammals in the area showed that most of mammals were found in broadleaf deciduous forest and the least in the coniferous forest.Along with the rising of elevation, the species richness rose and then desended with elevation ascenting.
