Abstract

Effects of EM coating on seed germination and seedling growth in maize were studied by the experiment of sand culture. Compared disease incidence rate of EMcoating and uncoating which had been dealt with different soil temperature and soil humidity in the condition of growing field crops. The results showed that the treatment with EM coating could significantly improve on seed germination power, germination percentage, germination index and vigor index of maize, reduce seed infection rate in the soil. Under the condition of bacteria existing, shoot height, root length, leaf area and shoot dry weight of the treat with EM significantly improved than normal growth. EM coating promote root and aerial growth of seedling. While the physiological and biochemical index also showed that EM seed- coating could significantly reduce vitamin C, soluble sugar content and malondialdehyde(MDA) content of maize seedling, superoxide dismutase activity(SOD) were enhanced. So the treat with EM could improve the disease resistance of seed and raise prevention effects of maize head smut.
