A controlled study between quetiapine and chlorpromazine in the treatment of schizophrenia

Abstract

Objective:To study the influence of quetiapine on clinical efficacy.Methods:Sixty-one patients with schizophrenia were diveded into two groups randomly.They were treated with quetiapine and chlorpromazine respectively for 8 weeks.The efficacy were evaluated with positive and negative syndrome scale(PANSS) and adverse effects were evaluated with treament emergent symptoms scale(TESS).Results: There was no significant difference in clinical efficacy between the two groups.Patients in quetiapine group less than chlorpromazine group adverse effects.The compliance of quetiapine was significantly better than that of chlorpromazine.Conclusions: Quetiapine have similar clinical efficacy as chlorpromazine in the treatment of schizophrenia,with more improvement to reduce side effects.
