Analysis on death causes of malignant tumors of inhabiants in Xiamen City from 2004 to 2009

Objective To investigate the death causes and distribution of malignant tumor death in Xiamen City,and to provide information for malignant tumor prevention and research. Methods Mortality rate,standandlized mortality rate,potential years of life lost (PYLL) and PYLL rate were used to analyze the death cause of malignant tumors. Results The annual average mortality rate of malignant tumors was 148.07/100 000,The PYLL rate was 21.68‰,they were all in the first place of all cause of death. Among malignant tumors,live cancer taken the lead with a mortality rate of 35.24/100 000. The next sequences were as follows:lung cancer,oesophagus cancer,stomach cancer,intestine cancer. Leukemia was the main tumor which caused inhabiants death in the group of 0～14 years old,live cancer constituted the highest cause of death in age 15～59,and the death of lung cancer in age 60 and above. The average PYLL of malignant tumors was 0.13 year. The sequences of PYLL rate of main death causes were:live cancer (0.590%),lung cancer (0.346%),oesophagus cancer (0.334%),stomach cancer (0.226%),intestine cancer (0.129%). Conclusions Malignant tumors is the main cause of death which affects the inhabitant in Xiamen. According to the different population and neoplasms,the comprehensive intervention measures should be implemented to prevent or decrease the incidence of malignant tumors. That strengthening environmental protection and changing unhealthy lifestyle have a very important significance for reducing the mortality rate of malignant neoplasms.
