Abstract

In order to study the morphology of the antennae, the type and distribution of the antennal sensilla of adult Bombyx mori, scanning electron microscope was used to observe the morphology of the antennae sensilla of adult B. mori. Results showed that seven types of sensilla including sensilla trichodea, short sensilla trichodea, sensilla basiconica, sensilla chaetica, sensilla coeloconica, sensilla auricillica and sensilla squamiformium were observed on the male and female antennae.Sensilla coeloconica existed only in male antennae. Sensilla trichodea was numerous in both male and female. It will provide basis for further studying morphology, physiology and chemical ecology of silkworm.
