Observation on the Ultrastructures of Antennal Sensilla in Helicoverpa assulta

Abstract

The ultrastructure of sensilla on antenna of both female and male adult Helicoverpa assulta was observed with a scanning electron microscope.Seven types of sensilla were found.These were sensilla trichodea(I and Ⅱ),sensilla chaetica(I and Ⅱ),sensilla coeloconica,sensilla basiconica,sensilla auricillica,sensilla cylindric and sensilla cavitata-peg.The sensilla trichodea were the most numerous.In addition,two new types of sensilla,sensilla cylindric and sensilla cavitata-peg,were found,which haven't been reported up to date in the researches on insects of Helicoverpa.The differences between male and female adults in type,number and distribution of sensilla are discused.
