Abstract

The expression VEGF was examined by immunohistochemical method in 61 surgically resected specimens of gastric carcinoma and their normal mucosa beside the tumor. The relationships between VEGF expressions and the clinical pathologic characteristics were analyzed. To investigate whether the expression of VEGF is correlated with the clinic pathologic characteristics and survival rate of gastric carcinoma. Results: Expressions of VEGF in gastric carcinoma were significantly higher than those in normal mucosa(P0.05);VEGF expression correlated with the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis,patho-type of tumor,TNM classification, and higher VEGF expression correlated with lower survival rate(P0.05).VEGF was overexpressed in gastric carcinoma.Overexpression of VEGF was correlated with the growth of gastric carcinoma, and affected the survival rate of patient, they may serve as prognostic factors to indicate biologic behavior and prognosis in gastric carcinoma.
