Abstract

On using vernacular or classical to translate poetry, it is not a pure problem of which one is better, but fundamentally concerning self experience in the modern framework. For a new generation of intellectuals, it is not only a civil society movement and popularization trends in line with historical trends to select vernacular in translating poetry, but also the only way carrying a new poetic ideals and cultural values to make use of new words, new grammar and new-genre. When they coincidentally lament the difficulties in translating poetry, Hu Shi and Zhou Zuoren establish a certain speech paradigm of new poetry relying on translation. The strategy of using vernacular in translating poetry has a direct impact on the open space of poetic style, and promotes the morphological transformation of poetry, resulting in the vernacular movement from the political translation tool of national salvation to the language tools.
