Abstract

Aim To evaluate the effects of carvedilol and metoprolol on cardiac function and insulin resistance(IR) in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) patients with chronic heart failure(CHF).Methods 130 patients with CHF and T2DM were divided into carvedilol group(n=65) and metoprolol group(n=65),with the same basic therapy. The therapy was given for 12 months.Result The cardiac function was improved in two groups. The left ventricular end diastolic dimension(LVEDd),left ventricular end-systolic volume index(LVESVI) and left ventricular end-diastolic volume index(LVEDVI) of two groups were decreased significantly(P0.05) and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) of the two groups increased significantly(P0.05).The insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) was lower in carvedilol group but not metoprolol group. Conclusion Both carvedilol and metoprolol can improve the heart function in the patients with CHF and T2DM,and the carvedilol not rather than metoprolol can improve IR.
