Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of transcription factor Sp1 in gastric cancer and normal mucosa and its clinic significance. Methods By using immunohistochemical SP method to study the protein expressions of Sp1 in 63 cases of gastric cancer,19 cases of nontypical hyperplasia tissue and 10 cases of normal gastric mucosa specimens obtained from patients who underwent partial gastrotomy for benign diseases. Results The positive rate of Sp1 protein in gastric cancer was 58.7% which is significantly higher than in gastric nontypical hyperplasia tissue(21.1%) and normal gastric mucosa(10.0%),and there is a statistically difference(P0.05)among them, which shows the intimate correlation of the protein expression of Sp1 to invasive depth,TNM stages and tumor node metastasis. Conclusion Sp1 protein may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progression of gastric cancer. The detection of Sp1 protein has a definite value in judging prognosis in gastric cancer.
