Abstract
Saccharomyces cerevisiae has the biosorption capacity. It can adsorb toxic heavy metals, and recover noble metal and radioactive elements from wastewater. It has many advantages, such as abundant and inexpensive biomass source, low capital investment, low operation costs and high efficiency of treatment, etc. In this paper, these hot topics of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as adsorption material were described. The absorption form, the properties of biosorbent, absorption capacity, absorption mechanism of biosorbent, immobilization of biosorbent and the factors of affecting biosorption quantity were analyzed and studied, and the tendency of the development of S.cerevisiae and the prospect of its application were also viewed.
