Effects of Pregabalin on Patients with Post Herpetic Neuralgia

【Objective】 To investigate the therapeutic effect and safety of Pregabalin(PGB)on patients with post herpetic neuralgia(PHN).【Methods】 A total of 36 patients with PHN were randomLy divided into control group and treatment group.The control group(n =18) was treated with Gabapentin(GBP)orally 900～2400 mg per day,three times a day;In addition to routing medicine therapy,the treatment group(n=18) were given with PGB 150～600 mg per day,twice or three times a day.And the course of study last for 6 Months.All the patients were quantified with visual analogue scale(VAS) for pain severity and Chinese version of Short Form-36(SF-36) for living quality before and 2,4,7,21,28,35,and 42 days after the study.And anesthetic effect and adverse reaction of both medicines were recorded simultaneously.【Results】 The therapeutic group significantly improved pain,quality of life,and showed lower adverse reaction compare with controlled group(P0.01).【Conclusion】 PGB can rapidly alleviate post herpetic neuralgia pain,enhance patients' quality of life,and was easily accepted by PHN patients for its good tolerance.
