Clinical efficacy of the combined surgery on angle-closure glaucoma with cataract

Objetive To evaluate the clinical efficacy of phacoemulsification combined with intraocular posterior chamber lens implantation and trabeculectomy on primary angle-closure glaucoma with cataract.Methods Thirty-eight cases (40 eyes) with angle- closure glaucoma and cataract undertook surgery of phacoemulsification with intraocular posterior chamber lens implantation and trabeculectomy.Results The mean IOP of 38 cases(40 eyes)in 3 months postoperatively was 15.52±5.3 mm Hg,which was distinctly lower than that of preoperative. The postoperative BCVA(best corrected visual acuity)0.3 was found in 8 eyes,from 0.4 to 0.5 in 22 eyes ,from 0.6 to 1.0 in 10 eyes . No severe postoperative complications were revealed in all of operated cases. Conclusion Considering decreasing intraocular pressure and improving visual acuity, the combined surgery is a good operative method for patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma and cataract.
